Hoti accused of corruption after spending billions on seminaries

PESHAWAR: The former chief minister and Member National Assembly Amir Haider Khan Hoti facing mega corruption charges by allocating billions of rupees for construction and renovation of religious seminaries in home district Mardan.

This was observed in the report of the standing committee of the provincial assembly which stated that Amir HaiderHoti, issued Rs 1.3 billion for renovation and rehabilitation of around 5620 mosques and Madressa.

The standing committee of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly launched an inquiry in the funds allocation and after two years of continuous scrutiny it was found that foremost the amount was releases from the government treasury pool without the formality of PC-1 of the said scheme.

The report of the committee also includes the findings submitted by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mardan and Assistant Commissioner (AC) of tehsil Takhtbhai.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) IftikharMashvani, who is also chairman of the Communication and Works committee, told this scribe that the committee has formally recommended the corruption case of Amir Haider Khan Hoti to KP Ehtesab Commission for action.

He said that National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) main branch of Mardan senior officials of than were also involved in the mega scam, adding that only 20 per cent mosques received amount for its facilitation.

“One person received 73 cheques of various amount for the purpose of rehabilitation and renovation of the mosques and Medressa,” IftikharMashvani added.

He said that public money was plundered on the name of religious place for worship without any follow up by the leader ANP at the district shows the irresponsibility of than chief minister

MPA IftikharMashvani claimed that all those mosques for which the money had been issued from the government treasury received no renovation or any other facilities and even some of the mosques are not present at the district. It worth to mention here that Amir Hadir Khan Hoti has been notified by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for providing false information in the assets and liability declaration statement.

The senior leadership of the ANP Party tight lips over the corruption inquiry undertaken by the provincial government against the Amir Haider Khan Hoti which has been submitted to KP Ehtisab commission for necessary legal action.

Amir Haider Khan Hoti referring the inquiry of the standing committee claimed that 10000 more mosques and Madressa would constructed if elected once again, adding that 500 mosques have been given funds at the district with the consent of local religious scholars and reject the allegation of corruptions in this regard.
