Scope of anti-encroachment drive to be extended in coming days

The district administration, on Tuesday, carried an anti-encroachment drive and demolished dozens of illegal encroachments near the Upper Chenab canal by using heavy machinery under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner City Hinna Arshad. The Deputy Commissioner Shoaib Tariq Warriach said that this anti-encroachment operation would be carried on for the next few days and its scope would be extended to the tehsil level. A large number of policemen accompanied the anti-encroachment team.

Customs recovers imported cigarettes worth Rs 20m

The Anti-Smuggling Squad of Pakistan Customs, on Tuesday, seized 95 thousand packets of imported cigarettes in a raid. The Assistant Collector Customs Ali Mohtisham Minhas told the media that on a tip off, the Squad stopped a truck at the Wazirabad bypass and recovered 95 thousands packets of smuggled cigarettes worth Rs 20 million. The cigarettes were being transported from Lahore to Rawalpindi.

CIA police arrests two proclaimed offenders

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) police, with the help of Interpol, arrested two proclaimed offenders involved in murder and robbery on Tuesday. The Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) CIA, Imran Abbas Chadhar, told to the media that the accused Azhar Dar and Habib Butt shot and killed a citizen Shahid Mehmood in 2012 while the accused were also involved in dozens of robbery incidents as well. Both the proclaimed offenders were arrested from Dubai.

Protest held against local police’s inaction

Dozens of shopkeepers staged a protest demonstration against the local police for not controlling the crime incidents in the Civil Lines area on Tuesday. The protesters alleged that many incidents of theft and robbery occurred within the last two days at the Sialkot road but the local police took no action against the criminals. The protesters also blocked the road.
