CJP warns to initiate high treason cases against dam critics

Published on: September 15, 2018 3:04 PM

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar on Saturday warned the ‘enemies’ of dams saying that high treason cases will be initiated against them if they do not halt their opposition.

Justice Nisar made these remarks while hearing a suo moto case against mineral water companies in the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry. “High treason cases will be initiated against those who oppose the dam projects or are trying to hinder their progress. I have started studying the Article 6,” the CJP said.

The top judge said that his only motive was to serve the nation and he will continue to do so as long as he serves as the chief justice. “After I retire, do not offer me any alternate post or designation,” he continued.

Earlier this week, the chief justice issued a final warning to dam critics saying that people opposing the construction of dams were working on someone else’s agenda.

“We will not allow such elements to prevail their agenda of non-construction of dams as it is the matter of future of our next generations,” the top judge remarked while hearing a case pertaining to the construction of Dadhocha dam in Rawalpindi.

The chief justice remarked that a politician has said that Supreme Court should form its own political party. “Nobody has right to utter such things, such people cannot shake our commitment towards construction of dams in country,” he said, adding that dams would be constructed at any cost.

“We are issuing a final warning to anti-dam elements as these matters relate not with politics but with the basic rights of the people,” he remarked.
