PM Imran approves to reshuffle IB, FBR, NACTA heads

Published on: August 28, 2018 9:16 PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday approved to reshuffle federal bureaucracy by removing key officials appointed by the previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government.

Civilian Intelligence Bureau (CIB) head Ehsan Ghani was removed from his position, while Dr Suleman Khan – a grade 22 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan – was appointed as the new director-general. The new CIB head will report directly to the prime minister.

Suleman was earlier serving as coordinator NACTA at the Ministry of Interior since June. Before NACTA, he was serving as DG IB and was appointed by former PM Shahid Khaqan abbasi in the last week of May. Senior police official Khaliq Dad was appointed as NACTA coordinator.

Khan has extensive experience in counter terrorism and has dismantled many terror networks in the country.

Tracing the linkages and investigation into important terrorist cases were to his credit including attacks on Peshawar Judicial Complex, attack on Islamabad district courts, Wagah border blast and Peshawar Meena Bazaar blast.

According to profile shared by official sources, Khan has also been involved in successful operations against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, 313 Brigade, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and Al Qaeda in the country in the last ten years.

The new DG IB also served in FIA and was a pioneer in establishing the CTD in KP province, because of which he came close to PTI leadership.

On the other hand, Board of Investment Secretary Jehanzeb Khan was posted as Feberal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman. New chairman FBR was tasked to revamp FBR and overcome corruption within the organisation.
