BZU VC shifted to hospital after alleged overdose of medicine

Published on: August 3, 2018 2:39 AM

MULTAN: Bahauddin Zakariya University’s (BZU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Tahir Amin, who has been taking medicines to recover from a cardiac disease, has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Nishtar Hospital in Multan when he was found unconscious at his residence in the premises of the university.
Reportedly, the BZU Public Relations Director Dr Sohaib Qadoos informed the journalists that Dr Tahir Amin ‘mistakenly’ consumed a dose of medicine twice and fell unconscious. He was rushed to the Chauhdry Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology, from where he was shifted to the Nishtar Hospital in Multan. Meanwhile, the Nishtar Medical University VC Dr Mustufa Kamal Pasha said that the condition of Dr Tahir Amin has improved but he would be kept under observance for the next 24 hours.
Besides, the medical superintendent (MS) Dr Amjad Chandio said that he has regained consciousness, but was still in critical condition, and that his diagnoses would further clarify if his condition had deteriorated due to an overdose or an adverse reaction of medicine.  Moreover, the VC had been absent from his office for the last 14 days, and was pressurised by a group of professors over some recruitments against merit in the university. He had been living alone in the university.  However, Dr Sohaib Qadoos denied all these allegations. Meanwhile, the Additional VC Dr Bashir Ahmad has taken the charge of VC.
