Sunita Parmar determined to improve education standards in Thar

Published on: June 19, 2018 5:05 PM

THARPARKAR: Independent candidate Sunita Parmar, who will be contesting from PS-56 constituency in Islamkot, shared her plans on Tuesday to improve standards of education for women in Thar.

Daily Times has learnt that in Tharparkar, there are 4188 schools, of which 144 schools are shelterless, while the ratio of girl schools in the region are also a minute 6.99 percent.

Talking to Daily Times, Sunita Parmar said that the situation of education is alarming in Tharparkar and that to build a positive and prosperous society, all respective stakeholders and politicians need to focus more on education. She added that an individual is known by his/her contributions in building nations and not by status or designation.

The PS-56 candidate said that the women in her region are extremely supportive of her and are hoping that Sunita triumphs in the general elections as they consider her the only ray of hope and the one who could fulfill their needs.

She said that several people had asked her to withdraw from elections, but she will not do so as she wants to fight for the rights of people of Thar, especially women.

“Many people asked me to withdraw from contesting, even those belonging to a more liberal and progressive approach, but I will contest the general elections because thousands of voiceless women are hoping for me to take their problems to the parliament,” she said.

Kali, a housewife and Sunita’s neighbour, requested her husband to buy her a smartphone so she can keep a check on all the updates and videos regarding Sunita’s election campaign. She also told that over a dozen other women visit the PS-56 to ask more about her journey and challenges every evening.

Sunita’s brother in law and social mobiliser Sajan Parmar said that he has secured many rewards from national level institutions but he is unknown to many faces but Sunita’s decision is remarkable. He said for someone like Sunita, who belongs to an underprivileged area, the kind of progress she is making and the work she is doing to promote education and welfare is remarkable.
