LSA 2018: Frieha Altaf kicks off the much-hyped #MeinBhi Movement

Published on: February 22, 2018 8:14 PM

The Lux Style Awards 2018 were not just a night to celebrate with the big wigs of Lollywood but a platform for the company behind the awards, Unilever, to highlight some important issues that have been affecting the Pakistani society for decades as well.

Frieha Altaf, a name associated with the Lux Style Awards, showcased for the audience the bigger picture by kickstarting the #MeinBhi movement on the show, inspired by the #MeToo campaign in Hollywood. The #MeinBhi movement is not only designed to cover sexual harassment issues but also, child abuse, rape, and other prevalent atrocities in our society.

While accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award in Fashion, Frieha (the mastermind behind the campaign) spoke about the ‘Mein Bhi’ movement in her speech, honouring Mukhtar Mai and Maheen Khan. This was followed by a soulful performance by Ahsan Khan who took centre stage with model Amna Ilyas for their #MeinBhi performance, dedicated to the future of the nation and the children of Pakistan.

In order to extend support for the ‘Mein Bhi’ movement, another grand extravaganza was planned towards the closing of the show, which included 76 musicians coming together and performing on our very own Shehzad Roy’s lyrics, “Uth bandh kamar kya darta hai phir dekh khuda kya karta hai.”

Prominent names of singers and musicians included in the anthem were that of Shehzad Roy, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Zoe and Rachel Viccaji, Aima Baig, Amanat Ali, Abu Fareed Qawwal and Farhan Saeed amongst others.

Celebrities and other bigwigs from the entertainment and fashion industry showed their solidarity for the ‘Mein Bhi’ movement by holding placards highlighting the issues to be covered, spanning towards the inclusion of several human rights violations and concerns.

Soon after the movement was spearheaded by Frieha Altaf, celebrities took to social media to voice their concern over child abuse and give audience to the sexual harassment awareness campaign.
