MADRID: Cristiano Ronaldo has said on Friday that he believes Real Madrid can end their otherwise stuttering season on a high note by winning a third consecutive UEFA Champions League title.
The Spanish and European champions were knocked-out of the Copa Del Rey after falling at home against second-tier Leganes on Thursday. Madrid also lags 19-points behind arch-rivals Barcelona in the league table.
Real Madrid sensation Cristiano, however, believes that despite the Galaticos’ short-comings this season, they can still turn things around with a UCL victory.
“We haven’t started well in La Liga and we are disappointed, nobody is happy about that, but if we can win the Champions League at the end of the year, it will be an incredible year,” said the 32-year-old.
Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, while answering a question regarding the team’s failures, said that it was all on the players and that coach Zinedine Zidane is the last person to blame. He also said that the team still has a champions league competition at hand.
“We (players) are all responsible and we hope this serves some use in the future. We still have the Champions League,” said Ramos.
The defending champions will face relentless Paris-Saint Germain (PSG) in UEFA Champions League round-of-16 double-legged fixture next month.
