Tragic new details revealed about child star Kaylee Hottle's death at 18

Two days after her passing, screenwriter Andy Mingo confirmed that Hottle had been cast in the upcoming superhero film What Doesn’t Kill Us. In a statement, Mingo said the production team had been looking forward to working with the actress and was deeply saddened by her sudden death.

Hottle joined the project in 2024. The film follows a group of friends with disabilities who aspire to become superheroes by transforming their disabilities into unique strengths. Hottle was set to portray a deaf character whose heightened senses and exceptional pattern recognition become her superpower, reflecting the film’s focus on inclusion and empowerment.

Co-writer Anna Campbell praised Hottle for breaking barriers in the entertainment industry. She said the actress inspired many by proving that disability should never limit opportunities and described her passing as a significant loss for both the film and the wider acting community.

Mingo added that the filmmakers intend to keep Hottle’s character in the screenplay as a tribute, preserving her contribution to the project and honouring her legacy.

Hottle rose to international recognition in 2021 with her role in Godzilla vs. Kong, where she appeared alongside Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgård and Brian Tyree Henry. She later reprised the role in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire in 2024, further establishing herself as one of Hollywood’s prominent deaf performers.

In a 2024 interview, Hottle spoke optimistically about the growing opportunities for deaf actors, saying she had witnessed encouraging progress in representation across the film industry. Her comments reflected her commitment to expanding visibility for performers with disabilities.
