Petrol pumps strike called off after govt assurance

Published on: July 22, 2026 8:50 PM

Petrol pumps owners and dealers have postponed their planned strike after the government assured them of resolving their concerns. The decision prevented a possible disruption in fuel supplies across Pakistan.

The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association announced that it had withdrawn the strike call following government assurances. The association said dealers’ demands, including an increase in margins, would be addressed.

Petrol Pumps Owners Association Information Secretary Nadeem Khan said authorities assured them that their issues would be resolved. He expressed hope that the commission matter would be settled within two weeks.

Meanwhile, Khan said the daily fuel pricing system would also be tested on a trial basis for two weeks. The association decided to delay the protest after receiving these commitments from the government.

Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government had assured petrol pumps and dealers that their concerns would be addressed within two weeks. He added that further discussions would be held if issues remained unresolved.

The minister said the government did not want allegations of supporting unfair profit practices in the petroleum sector. He stated that fuel prices would continue to follow global market trends under a transparent mechanism.

The postponement of the strike eased immediate concerns over fuel availability. Government officials and dealers are expected to continue talks during the upcoming two-week period to finalize solutions.
