Heavy rain triggers flash flooding in upper Balakot, several vehicles stranded

Published on: July 20, 2026 7:10 AM

The local authorities in Mansehra district have declared an emergency following ongoing monsoon rains, as heavy downpours triggered flash flooding in seasonal streams in the upper areas of Balakot, leaving several vehicles stranded and disrupting traffic. According to Rescue 1122 on Sunday, intense rainfall caused a significant rise in water levels in seasonal streams across Balakot, Damgala, Shogran and Boli. Landslides at multiple locations also blocked roads, affecting the flow of traffic. On the instructions of District Emergency Officer Abrar Ali, Rescue 1122’s Water Rescue and Disaster Response teams, deployed at temporary rescue points, immediately reached the affected areas during routine patrols. Rescue personnel safely evacuated stranded residents and tourists from areas near flooded streams, moved several vehicles to secure locations and helped restore traffic. Rescue 1122 Mansehra has urged residents and tourists to avoid crossing flooded streams, flash flood channels and fast-flowing water during heavy rains. The department also advised the public to contact Rescue 1122 immediately in case of any emergency.
