The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that the second spell of monsoon rains will start in the province from July 19 (today), which is likely to continue till July 24.
According to PDMA spokesperson, during this time, strong winds, thunderstorms and rains are predicted in most districts of the province, while there are chances of heavy rains in a short period of time in the second spell of monsoon.
The PDMA said that heavy rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib and Chiniot.
According to the spokesperson, rain is also expected in Noorpur Thal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addo, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.
The PDMA has expressed fears of urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Multan and Faisalabad. In addition, the risk of flooding has also been indicated in local rivers, Nullah Lai, Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat and rainwater drains of North-East Punjab.
The PDMA has directed the relevant agencies to remain alert and citizens to take precautionary measures.
