Gwadar Port carries out first successful commercial bunkering operation

Published on: July 12, 2026 8:59 AM

In a major milestone for Pakistan’s maritime sector, the National Logistics Corporation (NLC), in collaboration with global energy giant Vitol, has successfully executed its inaugural bunkering operation at Gwadar Port. The landmark operation involved supplying 2,500 metric tons of International Maritime Organization (IMO) compliant Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) to the UAE-owned LNG vessel ENUGU.

The premium marine fuel utilized in this venture was locally produced by Cnergyico PK Limited at its domestic refinery, showcasing the country’s growing capability to meet stringent international marine fuel standards. Industry experts view this development as a significant breakthrough in the establishment of a robust bunkering and marine fuel supply ecosystem within Pakistan.

Crucially, the success of this operation positions Gwadar Port as a highly credible and strategic alternative bunkering location for international sea-going vessels. As heightened geopolitical tensions continue to complicate traditional shipping lanes and refueling hubs in the region, Gwadar offers a secure, efficient, and reliable option for global maritime trade, unlocking new economic potential for the country’s blue economy.
