Cristiano Ronaldo Confirms FIFA World Cup 2026 Was His Final World Cup

Published on: July 7, 2026 11:06 PM

Cristiano Ronaldo final World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the FIFA World Cup 2026 was the final World Cup of his legendary career. The announcement came after Portugal’s heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Round of 16, where a late goal ended Portugal’s title hopes. Reflecting on the emotional exit, Cristiano Ronaldo final World Cup became one of the biggest talking points after the match.

Spain secured victory with a stoppage-time goal from Mikel Merino, leaving Ronaldo in tears as he walked off the pitch. Speaking to the media after the game, the Portuguese captain said he was disappointed with the result but had no regrets because he gave everything he had for his country. He added that football, like life, brings both victories and defeats.

When asked about his future, Ronaldo confirmed that this was indeed his last FIFA World Cup. The 41-year-old said he now plans to spend time with his family before carefully considering the next steps in his career. However, he did not confirm whether this was also his final appearance for the Portugal national team, saying he did not want to make emotional decisions that could overshadow the team.

Ronaldo expressed pride in representing Portugal for 23 years, during which he helped the country win UEFA Euro 2016 and the UEFA Nations League titles in 2019 and 2025. He described the 2016 European Championship as the greatest achievement in Portugal’s football history, adding that, for him, its value is equal to winning a World Cup.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 976 goals for club and country during his remarkable career and remains one of football’s greatest players. Despite winning numerous major trophies, the FIFA World Cup was the only major title missing from his collection. The Cristiano Ronaldo final World Cup ended without the dream he had chased for more than two decades, but his achievements have already secured his place among the greatest footballers in history.
