Published on: July 3, 2026 9:03 PM

The Prime Minister National Under-21 Women’s Hockey Championship, organized by the Pakistan Hockey Federation, kicked off here at the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium with 16 teams from across the country competing for the coveted title. The opening ceremony was inaugurated by PHF President and Federal Secretary for Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, said a press release issued here. Speaking on the occasion, Wani reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to the revival, promotion and development of

hockey in Pakistan. He announced that the championship would serve as a talent hunt to select players for two national women’s squads.

He further revealed that the selected players will represent Pakistan in the Under-18 Women’s Asia Cup, while the Under-18 Five-a-Side Asia Cup will be held in Oman later this month. Wani also said that efforts are underway to build a strong Pakistan senior women’s hockey team, adding that highly qualified coaches will be appointed to nurture and enhance the skills of female players.

He reiterated the PHF’s commitment to strengthening women’s hockey and restoring Pakistan’s prominence on the international hockey stage.

On the opening day of the championship, Sindh, Punjab B and Kashmir registered impressive victories. Sindh defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa A 4-0, with Anosha Shah scoring a brilliant hat-trick. In another one-sided contest, Kashmir outclassed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa B 9-0 to make a commanding start to their campaign.
