Pakistan has expressed heartfelt condolences and unwavering solidarity with Venezuela after two powerful earthquakes caused heavy loss of life, widespread destruction and ongoing rescue operations across the South American country. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari conveyed sympathy to the Venezuelan government and its people, reaffirming Pakistan’s support during this difficult period as emergency teams continue searching for survivors.
The twin earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck Venezuela on Wednesday, severely affecting Caracas and nearby regions. The powerful tremors damaged buildings, trapped hundreds beneath debris and left many people injured, while authorities continued extensive rescue efforts. Moreover, international experts warned that the death toll could rise significantly as recovery operations progress in the hardest-hit areas.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a message shared on X, extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. He said the people of Pakistan stand beside Venezuela in this time of grief and expressed hope that relief efforts would provide timely assistance to those affected by the devastating disaster.
President Asif Ali Zardari also expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of life and destruction caused by the earthquakes. He conveyed sympathies to the bereaved families and said Pakistan shares the grief of the Venezuelan nation. Furthermore, he prayed for strength, resilience and a swift recovery for everyone impacted by the natural calamity.
Meanwhile, rescue teams continued searching collapsed buildings as authorities worked to reach people trapped under rubble. Venezuelan Interim President Delcy Rodriguez said the initial casualty figures did not include victims from La Guaira, one of the worst-affected regions. Additionally, the United States Geological Survey warned that predictive models indicate fatalities could increase substantially as search operations continue.
