The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have begun consultations over the allocation of key constitutional offices as efforts continue to form the next government in Gilgit-Baltistan following the recent regional elections.
According to sources, the PPP has decided to nominate Imran Nadeem Shigri for the position of Speaker of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. The party leadership has reportedly approved his nomination as part of its strategy for government formation in the region.
Imran Nadeem Shigri was elected to the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly from the GBA-12 Shigar constituency on a PPP ticket and is considered a senior party figure in the region.
Sources also indicated that Aurangzeb Khan Advocate is likely to be nominated for the office of Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan. A senior PML-N leader, he previously served as the region’s law minister and has held the position of senior vice president of the party’s Gilgit-Baltistan chapter.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Sunai, a PML-N member elected from the GBA-22 Ghanche constituency, is being considered for the post of Deputy Speaker of the assembly as part of ongoing discussions between the coalition partners.
The consultations come after the PPP emerged as the largest party in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, securing 11 general seats in the regional assembly. Party leaders are also reportedly engaging with independently elected members in an effort to strengthen their position and secure a stable governing majority.
Political observers view the negotiations between the PPP and PML-N as a significant step toward the formation of a coalition-backed administration in the strategically important region.
Further announcements regarding cabinet positions and constitutional appointments are expected once discussions between the two parties are finalized.
