Illegal kidney transplant operation uncovered in Kasur

Published on: June 22, 2026 12:14 PM

Kidney trade: Myanmar villagers fly to India to sell organs illegally

Authorities in Kasur have uncovered an alleged illegal kidney transplant operation during a raid on a private hospital, leading to the sealing of the facility and the detention of two individuals.

According to officials, the operation was carried out jointly by the District Health Authority and local police after receiving information about suspected unlawful medical activities at the hospital. During the raid, authorities discovered evidence of an alleged illegal kidney transplant procedure being conducted at the facility.

Officials said the private hospital was immediately sealed following the inspection to prevent further activities while investigations continue. Two individuals present at the site were taken into custody for questioning regarding their alleged involvement in the case.

During the operation, authorities also recovered a kidney that was reportedly intended for use in the transplant procedure. In addition, a female patient who had allegedly been brought to the hospital for the unlawful transplant was rescued and taken into protective custody.

Health officials have not yet released details regarding the identities of those detained or the ownership and management of the hospital. Investigators are expected to examine medical records, equipment and documentation recovered from the facility to determine the full extent of the alleged operation.

Illegal organ transplantation remains a serious criminal offence under Pakistani law, with strict regulations governing organ donation and transplant procedures. Authorities periodically conduct inspections and enforcement actions to prevent unauthorized medical practices and protect vulnerable patients from exploitation.

The latest incident has raised concerns about illegal organ trade networks and the need for continued monitoring of private healthcare facilities. Officials said further legal action would be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.

The District Health Authority and law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to enforcing healthcare regulations and ensuring that medical procedures are carried out in accordance with the law. More details are expected to emerge as authorities complete their inquiry into the case and determine whether additional individuals were involved in the alleged illegal transplant operation.
