Iran has said the emerging memorandum of understanding with the United States includes a ceasefire in Lebanon as a core component. The development is significant as it links broader regional stability to ongoing US-Iran negotiations. Lebanon, regional actors, and global mediators are directly affected by the proposed framework.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Lebanon is explicitly included in the draft agreement. Moreover, he stressed that respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is part of the arrangement. He described the clause as central to efforts aimed at ending wider regional conflict.
In addition, Baghaei said the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon is an “inseparable” part of the deal. He added that Iran has already shown commitment to achieving a ceasefire and will continue monitoring compliance. As a result, Tehran expects all parties to adhere to their obligations under the agreement.
Furthermore, the Iranian spokesperson said the draft also includes economic provisions such as sanctions relief and access to frozen assets. He noted that reconstruction support and compensation mechanisms are part of the proposed framework. However, he warned that failure by the United States to comply could trigger countermeasures.
Meanwhile, Iran said arrangements for maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz are also included in the agreement. Officials indicated coordination with regional partners, including Oman, for safe navigation. The final memorandum is expected to be signed soon as diplomatic talks continue.
