A joint operation by intelligence and law enforcement agencies in Chachro tehsil of Tharparkar district on Sunday has led to the detention of 15 suspected Afghan nationals following scrutiny of their residency status and identity documents, according to local police sources. Officials said the operation focused on Afghan families who had reportedly been residing near Chachro Police Station for several years. During the verification process, authorities examined their credentials and residential records, after which 15 individuals were taken into custody and shifted to Karachi for further legal proceedings and investigation. Local residents claimed that most of the detained individuals had been living in the area for nearly two decades and were primarily involved in the furniture business. However, police sources indicated that inquiries were also underway into allegations of possible involvement in other unlawful activities, although no official confirmation has been issued regarding such claims. Investigators are reportedly reviewing alleged irregularities in identity documents, including the use of incorrect or fake addresses on national identity cards. Sources further disclosed that transactions related to government land and residential properties are also being examined as part of a broader legal review.
