Sindh Labour Minister Saeed Ghani has claimed that corruption worth more than Rs20 billion was uncovered in his department, adding that the government is refusing to bow to pressure and is determined to hold those responsible accountable. He said the administration is committed to addressing irregularities and ensuring justice in the Sindh labour department corruption case.
Speaking at the All Pakistan Women Workers Conference at the Arts Council Karachi, Ghani highlighted the government’s efforts to support workers, particularly home-based workers. He noted that such workers have now been formally recognized and shared that he himself had once been a dismissed employee.
The minister also spoke about the role of women in society and the workforce. Recalling his family’s background, he said his grandmother ran a shop and worked hard to educate her children and grandchildren. He expressed satisfaction at seeing more women working alongside men and contributing to the economy.
Ghani revealed that during his tenure as Labour Adviser in 2016, he was allegedly offered a monthly bribe of Rs50 million. He said more than Rs20 billion in corruption had taken place within his department and stressed that he would not allow individuals accused of wrongdoing to return to their previous positions. According to him, the government is determined to pursue accountability despite any pressure.
The Sindh minister further stated that his leadership is serious about reforming institutions and improving workers’ welfare. He highlighted plans to provide 2 million homes, with ownership rights granted to women, and said that millions of women would benefit through new bank accounts and social security initiatives. He added that worker registration must increase significantly, emphasizing that addressing Sindh labour department corruption is essential for building a more transparent and effective system.
