President Asif Ali Zardari convened the sessions of both houses of parliament on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. According to official notifications, the Senate session will begin at 4:00pm, while the National Assembly will meet at 5:00pm.

The development comes as the government finalises preparations for the upcoming budget, which is expected to outline its fiscal priorities, revenue measures and spending plans for the next financial year. The budget is likely to be presented in the National Assembly on June 12, although the final schedule is subject to parliamentary approval.

Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry confirmed the expected budget date in a statement shared on social media. He said Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb is expected to present the federal budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year before the lower house of parliament.

The upcoming budget is being closely watched by businesses, investors and the public amid ongoing economic reforms and negotiations with international financial institutions. Expectations are high regarding measures related to taxation, inflation control, development spending and energy sector reforms.

Economic analysts believe the budget will reflect the government’s efforts to maintain fiscal discipline while supporting economic growth. The proposals are also expected to address revenue generation targets, public sector development programmes and social welfare initiatives.

Following the budget presentation, lawmakers from both treasury and opposition benches will debate the government’s fiscal proposals before approval of the finance bill. Parliamentary committees are also expected to review various budgetary allocations and policy measures.
