Governor urges launch of flights ahead of Shandur Festival

Published on: June 8, 2026 3:45 AM

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Sunday said that concrete measures were being taken to promote tourism and sports in the province, adding that people from across the country were eagerly awaiting the launch of new flights ahead of the annual Shandur Festival.

He expressed these views during a meeting with Group Advisor of South Air, Sohail Ali Khan, at the Governor House. The South Air representative arrived in Peshawar to review arrangements for commencing the airline’s flight operations from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. During the meeting, the Governor was briefed on the airline’s plans to expand air connectivity within the province and other parts of the country. The South Air delegation assured the Governor that, in line with his directions, flight operations from Dera Ismail Khan would be resumed.

The delegation further informed that flights from Islamabad to Dera Ismail Khan, Peshawar to Quetta, Peshawar to Lahore, and Islamabad to Chitral would be launched as soon as the required permissions were obtained.

Governor Kundi emphasized the importance of improving air connectivity, particularly before the Shandur Festival, saying that timely commencement of flights would facilitate tourists and contribute significantly to the promotion of tourism in the province.

He said that better transportation links would not only support tourism activities but also strengthen economic and commercial opportunities in different regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
