The prime minister highlighted the visible impacts of climate change, including devastating floods, prolonged droughts, extreme heatwaves, glacial melting, water shortages and worsening air pollution. He said these challenges demonstrated that climate change was no longer a distant concern but an urgent reality affecting millions of people worldwide.
Shehbaz Sharif pointed out that Pakistan remains among the countries most vulnerable to climate change despite contributing only a small share of global greenhouse gas emissions. He said the country continues to bear significant human and economic losses due to climate-related disasters and environmental degradation.
Reaffirming the government’s environmental agenda, the prime minister said efforts were underway to promote renewable energy, restore forests, conserve biodiversity, improve water management, reduce pollution and encourage climate-smart agriculture. He added that policies aimed at strengthening environmental sustainability and restoring natural ecosystems were being actively implemented.
The prime minister also emphasised the role of young people in building a greener and more climate-resilient Pakistan. He said empowering youth through education, technology and opportunities would help drive innovation and environmental awareness.
