ISPR honours UN peacekeepers, highlights global service role

Published on: May 29, 2026 4:57 PM

The Inter-Services Public Relations has paid tribute to Pakistani UN peacekeepers, recognising their sacrifices and long-standing contributions to global peace missions across multiple conflict regions. On International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2026, the military’s media wing reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting international peace, stability, and humanitarian efforts under the United Nations flag.

According to ISPR, more than 237,000 Pakistani military personnel have served in UN peacekeeping missions since 1960, reflecting decades of consistent participation in global security operations. The statement highlighted Pakistan’s role as one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping forces, demonstrating its continued dedication to international cooperation and conflict resolution efforts worldwide.

Moreover, ISPR stated that 183 Pakistani peacekeepers have embraced martyrdom while serving in different conflict zones under UN mandates. These personnel lost their lives while performing duties in volatile environments, where peace enforcement and civilian protection missions often face severe security risks and unpredictable operational challenges.

At present, Pakistani peacekeeping contingents are actively deployed in several UN missions, including operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic. These troops are engaged in maintaining peace, supporting stability, and assisting local authorities in restoring order in regions affected by prolonged conflict and humanitarian crises.

In addition, the military’s media wing noted that Pakistani Blue Helmets are also involved in humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and community support initiatives in host countries. These activities include medical aid, infrastructure support, and emergency response operations aimed at helping vulnerable populations recover from conflict and natural disasters.

Furthermore, ISPR highlighted that modern peacekeeping missions are facing new challenges such as cyber threats, digital risks, and climate-related emergencies that demand greater international cooperation. Emphasizing the UN theme “Invest in Peace,” the statement urged stronger global investment in peacebuilding efforts while reaffirming Pakistan’s continued commitment to supporting global peace and humanitarian missions under the United Nations system.
