The Punjab government has launched a province-wide crackdown against transport overcharging, overloading, and unfit public vehicles ahead of the Eidul Azha holidays, as authorities prepare for increased passenger movement during the festive season.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed deputy commissioners and district police officers to conduct strict inspections of buses, transport terminals, and public transport facilities across the province.

The chief minister further ordered that all buses and transport terminals must prominently display official fare lists to ensure passengers are not overcharged during Eid travel.
In addition, vehicles lacking valid fitness certificates have been ordered off the roads as part of efforts to improve passenger safety and reduce the risk of accidents during the holiday rush.
Punjab authorities also emphasised the importance of providing basic facilities for travellers. Clean drinking water arrangements have been directed at bus stands and terminals to facilitate passengers during long-distance travel.
To assist the public, the Transport Department has launched a dedicated helpline, 1071, where citizens can report complaints related to overcharging, overcrowding, unsafe vehicles, or other transport-related issues.
Officials said monitoring teams would remain active throughout the Eid period to ensure transport operators comply with government directives and passenger safety standards.
Every year, Eid holidays lead to heavy intercity travel across Pakistan, often resulting in complaints regarding inflated fares, overcrowded buses, and poor transport conditions.

Authorities urged passengers to report violations immediately through the official helpline to help ensure effective enforcement across the province.
