Higher Education Department declares summer holidays

Published on: May 21, 2026 8:48 PM

Punjab’s Higher Education Department announced summer vacations for public and private colleges across the province. The holidays will officially begin from May 22 under the latest departmental notification. Moreover, authorities confirmed that summer vacations will continue until August 24 this year.

According to the official notification, the decision applies to both government and private colleges throughout Punjab. The department introduced the measure to manage rising temperatures during the summer season effectively. Furthermore, students and faculty members will remain off campus during the announced holiday period. However, educational activities linked to degree programs will continue under existing schedules.

The Higher Education Department clarified that four-year degree programs would continue without interruption during the vacations. Authorities stated that routine academic activities for these programs would proceed according to institutional schedules. In addition, examinations would continue as planned despite the summer closure announcement. Colleges will therefore maintain examination arrangements during the holiday period.

Meanwhile, students welcomed the announcement as temperatures continue increasing across several cities in Punjab. Many educational institutions had already adjusted timings because of the ongoing heatwave conditions in the province. Additionally, parents and teachers supported the decision, considering student health and safety concerns during extreme weather conditions.

The Higher Education Department advised colleges to follow the official instructions strictly during the vacation period. Authorities also directed institutions to ensure smooth continuation of examinations and academic operations where required. Finally, colleges across Punjab are expected to reopen after the completion of summer vacations on August 24.
