Pakistan to Celebrate Eid ul-Adha 2026 on May 27 - Bloom Pakistan

Pakistan will celebrate Eid al-Adha on May 27 after the moon marking the beginning of Zilhaj was sighted across the country, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Sunday.

The official announcement was made following a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee held in Karachi, chaired by committee head Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad.

The session took place at the Met Office and was attended by members of central and zonal moon sighting committees, along with representatives from the Pakistan Meteorological Department and SUPARCO.

Speaking after the meeting, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad confirmed that multiple testimonies were received from different parts of the country verifying the sighting of the Zilhaj moon.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee has officially confirmed the sighting of the Dhul-Hijjah moon in Pakistan, announcing that Eid-ul-Azha will be observed nationwide on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Based on the confirmed reports, the committee announced that the first day of Zilhaj will fall on May 18, while Eidul Azha will be observed nationwide on May 27.

Officials said testimonies were received from several areas, including Mardan and Peshawar, where witnesses reported sighting the crescent moon.

The announcement aligns Pakistan’s Eid date with several other Muslim-majority countries, including Saudi Arabia, which also confirmed the Zilhaj moon sighting and announced Eidul Azha for May 27.

Saudi authorities stated that Wuquf-e-Arafah will be observed on May 26, one day before Eid celebrations.

Meanwhile, Indonesia also confirmed the moon sighting, with authorities there announcing the same Eid date.

Eidul Azha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.

The holiday is marked by special prayers, animal sacrifice, charitable giving and family gatherings across Pakistan and the wider Muslim world.

Preparations for Eid shopping, livestock markets and travel are expected to intensify in the coming days as citizens prepare for the religious festival.
