Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that US-Russia relations remain stagnant despite public optimism about cooperation. He stated that although both sides speak positively about potential engagement, little progress has been achieved. His remarks highlight continuing tensions between Moscow and Washington despite renewed diplomatic contact.

Lavrov noted that discussions about cooperation in technology, energy and other sectors have not produced concrete results. He acknowledged that Russia appreciates efforts by US President Donald Trump to reopen dialogue with Moscow. However, he said that these initiatives have not translated into meaningful policy changes.

Meanwhile, Lavrov compared the current situation to earlier US-Russia relations under the previous administration. He argued that most policies remain unchanged despite expectations of improved relations. According to him, sanctions imposed during earlier years are still in place and continue to affect Russia’s economy.

Furthermore, Lavrov said that additional measures by the current US administration have added pressure on Moscow. He suggested that new punitive actions have limited the scope for economic cooperation between the two countries. Despite this, he emphasised that routine diplomatic communication between the two sides continues.
