British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing growing pressure to resign after the ruling Labour Party suffered major losses in local elections. Senior cabinet members have reportedly demanded a clear resignation timeline following the party’s poor electoral performance across England.
According to British media reports, Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood are among key figures calling for leadership changes. Several senior Labour lawmakers reportedly urged Keir Starmer to prepare for an organized transfer of power within the party.
Reports further stated that nearly 70 Labour Members of Parliament now support calls for Starmer’s resignation. However, party rules require support from at least 81 lawmakers to formally launch a leadership challenge and begin the process of selecting a new party leader.
Meanwhile, Britain’s foreign secretary also reportedly advised Starmer to establish a proper transition plan for leadership change. Political observers believe the growing internal pressure reflects deep concerns within Labour over declining public support and the party’s future electoral prospects.

Despite the criticism, Keir Starmer has insisted he will prove his critics wrong. He admitted that his government had made some mistakes during its time in office. However, he defended his administration’s major political decisions and said he believed the government had chosen the correct direction overall.
The crisis intensified after the Labour Party reportedly lost more than 1,300 seats in recent local elections across United Kingdom. Analysts say the results exposed serious dissatisfaction among voters and increased pressure on the prime minister. As a result, the Labour election defeat continues to fuel demands for Keir Starmer’s resignation and possible leadership change.
