Israeli authorities have brought two activists from a Gaza-bound aid flotilla to Israel for questioning, according to the foreign ministry. The move follows the interception of multiple vessels by Israeli naval forces earlier this week. The activists are expected to face further investigation by law enforcement authorities.
The detained individuals were identified as Saif Abu Keshek from Spain and Thiago Avila from Brazil. Israel said both are linked to the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad (PCPA). The group has been sanctioned by the United States over alleged ties to Hamas-related activities.

Israeli officials claimed the activists were involved in organising flotillas aimed at breaking the blockade on Gaza. They also stated that Avila had previously participated in similar missions. The foreign ministry said both individuals will be allowed consular visits from their home countries.
The flotilla, comprising more than 50 vessels, departed from ports in Europe carrying humanitarian aid for Gaza. Organisers said Israeli forces intercepted the boats more than 1,000 kilometres from the territory. They described the operation as unlawful and accused Israel of using excessive force.

The incident comes amid ongoing tensions over aid access to Gaza, which has been under blockade since 2007. Israel says the blockade is necessary for security, while activists call for unrestricted humanitarian passage. International reactions remain divided over the latest interception.
