PM Shehbaz congratulates Iraq’s new premier

Prime Minister Seeks Two-Week Extension, Urges Hormuz Reopening

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday congratulated Iraq’s newly appointed Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi. He extended best wishes and expressed confidence in Iraq’s new leadership. The message reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

In his statement posted on social media platform X, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s desire to expand cooperation with Iraq. He said both countries share goals of peace, stability, and regional prosperity. The premier emphasized closer diplomatic and economic engagement under the new Iraqi government.

He further stated that Pakistan looks forward to working closely with Baghdad. The focus will remain on enhancing mutual trust and strengthening long-term partnerships. Islamabad sees Iraq as an important partner in the region.

Meanwhile, international reactions also followed the appointment of the Iraqi leader. U.S. President Donald Trump expressed strong support for the new Iraqi prime minister. He said Washington would continue to back Iraq’s leadership transition.

The developments reflect growing diplomatic activity around Iraq’s new government formation. Pakistan’s statement aligns with its broader foreign policy of regional cooperation. Both countries are expected to explore deeper collaboration in coming months.
