The United States Department of State has announced a limited-edition passport design to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. Officials said the special passport will highlight important moments from American history while marking the milestone celebrations planned across the country. The design also includes imagery connected to national founding documents and symbols intended to reflect the historical significance of the anniversary.
One of the most notable additions in the new passport design is an interior page featuring a photograph of Donald Trump alongside text from the Declaration of Independence. The page will also include the president’s signature printed in gold ink as part of the commemorative design. This element has generated discussion online, with some observers questioning whether the passport design should feature a sitting political leader so prominently.

Another interior page will display a well-known historical painting depicting the Founding Fathers signing the Declaration of Independence. Officials explained that the imagery was chosen to highlight the origins of the United States and remind citizens of the nation’s founding principles. The design aims to combine historical symbolism with visual elements celebrating the country’s long political and constitutional tradition.
According to State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigot, the limited-edition passports will become available during the summer through the Washington Passport Agency. Citizens who apply while supplies last will receive the commemorative version at no additional cost compared with standard passports. Authorities also confirmed that there will be no special eligibility requirements, meaning any applicant could receive the design until the limited stock is exhausted.

The external appearance of the passport has also been updated with several symbolic changes reflecting the 250th anniversary theme. The cover now features larger lettering, while the back displays an American flag design with the number “250” placed beneath thirteen stars representing the original colonies. Officials said these visual elements were created to emphasize the milestone celebration and connect the modern passport with historic national symbols.
The passport announcement forms part of a wider program of national events organized under the America250 initiative. Planned activities include a Grand Prix race on the National Mall, a major sporting event hosted at the White House, and the Great America State Fair scheduled from June 25 to July 10. While supporters say the celebrations will highlight American history and culture, critics argue that the inclusion of contemporary political imagery has sparked debate about the focus of the commemorative campaign.
