India’s disinfo campaign exposed in bid to sabotage Pakistan-Bangladesh ties

Published on: April 29, 2026 12:58 AM

A sophisticated and orchestrated disinformation network, operated by Indian intelligence agencies in tandem with remnants of the exiled Awami League, has been exposed for its desperate attempt to destabilize the Bangladesh Armed Forces and fabricate a “Pakistan connection” in the nation’s internal political affairs.

This coordinated campaign seeks to rewrite the history of the 2024 student-led uprising, attempting to frame the grassroots democratic movement as a “Pakistan-sponsored coup.”

Analysts monitoring the situation have flagged an influx of AI-generated deepfakes and fabricated intelligence dossiers targeting Bangladesh’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Waker-Uz-Zaman.

These malicious reports, disseminated through compromised digital platforms, falsely allege that the COAS was facilitating Pakistani naval access-a transparent attempt to sow discord within the rank and file of the Bangladesh Army and fracture the nation’s security establishment.

The Bangladesh Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has forcefully condemned these actions, accusing Indian media outlets of spearheading a propaganda offensive designed to cast Pakistan as a subversive actor within Bangladesh. By manufacturing a non-existent threat, New Delhi is attempting to justify its own interference in Dhaka’s sovereign security decisions.

The narrative of “regional stability” peddled by India stands in stark contrast to its actions regarding Sheikh Hasina. Despite a death sentence issued by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) for her role in suppressing the 2024 uprising, India continues to grant her safe harbor.

This protection is not merely a diplomatic snub; it is a blatant violation of the 2013 Extradition Treaty between the two nations, highlighting New Delhi’s willingness to ignore international law to harbor a political asset, an analyst obeserved.

The desperation of this nexus was on full display during the February 2026 General Elections. Leveraging Indian communication infrastructure, Sheikh Hasina launched a vitriolic digital campaign, delegitimizing the electoral process as “pre-planned rigging” and actively inciting the resignation of the interim government. It is now evident that her political survival has become a project of the Indian intelligence apparatus.

Security experts suggest that the motivation behind this campaign is rooted in fear as New Delhi views any budding economic or security cooperation between Dhaka and Islamabad as an existential threat to its regional hegemony.

By propagating these fabrications, India aims to instill paranoia within Bangladesh’s corridors of power, to erect a wall between two sovereign nations. This campaign is not about “security”-it is about maintaining an iron grip over South Asia by ensuring neighbors remain isolated, suspicious, and subservient to Indian dictates.
