Pakistan army responds to cross-border firing in south waziristan

Published on: April 27, 2026 2:29 PM

The Pakistan Army has reportedly destroyed several Afghan Taliban positions following unprovoked firing from across the border in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan, according to security sources.

Officials said the action was taken after militants attempted to infiltrate Pakistani territory but were detected and effectively repelled by alert border forces. Following the failure of the infiltration attempt, militants allegedly opened fire on civilian areas, prompting a strong retaliatory response.

Security sources stated that multiple enemy posts were targeted and destroyed during the counteraction. The exchange of fire resulted in injuries to three civilians, including two women, who were immediately shifted to Wana Hospital for medical treatment. Their condition was reported to be stable after receiving initial care.

Local residents strongly condemned the firing on civilian areas and expressed concern over repeated cross-border incidents affecting the region’s security and daily life. They urged authorities to ensure stronger border protection and prevent further harm to civilians.

The situation comes amid ongoing tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where security forces have frequently reported militant infiltration attempts and cross-border attacks in recent months.

Pakistan maintains that militant groups operating from Afghan soil, including factions linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), are responsible for attacks inside its territory. However, Afghan authorities have repeatedly denied allowing their territory to be used for such activities, insisting they do not support any group targeting neighbouring countries.

Security officials said vigilance along the border remains high, with routine monitoring and rapid response measures in place to counter any threats. They added that operations will continue against groups involved in cross-border militancy to ensure the protection of civilians and border communities.

The latest incident highlights the fragile security situation in the border regions, where sporadic clashes and infiltration attempts have continued despite diplomatic efforts and previous rounds of dialogue between the two countries.

Authorities emphasized that priority remains the safety of civilians and maintaining territorial integrity in the face of ongoing security challenges.
