According to Iranian officials, Araghchi is expected to meet Vladimir Putin during his visit, signaling Moscow’s continued involvement in efforts to manage the escalating regional crisis. His trip comes after a series of diplomatic engagements, including visits to Oman and Islamabad, aimed at reviving dialogue between Iran and the United States.

Hopes for a second round of talks in Pakistan were dashed after Donald Trump cancelled a planned visit by his envoys, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The cancellation followed statements from Tehran indicating that Araghchi had no plans to meet US officials during his regional tour.
Despite the setback, indirect communication appears to be ongoing. Iranian media reported that Tehran conveyed written messages to Washington through Pakistan, outlining key red lines, particularly on nuclear issues and control of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
The waterway remains a major point of contention. Iran’s closure of Hormuz has disrupted global oil and gas shipments, while the United States has imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports in response. The standoff has sent energy prices higher and raised concerns about global supply chains and food security.
Meanwhile, a fragile ceasefire between Iran and its adversaries continues to hold, though tensions remain high. Araghchi emphasized the importance of ensuring safe transit through Hormuz, describing regional stability as a shared priority.
