To mark five years since its launch in Pakistan, Spotify has released comprehensive data on the country’s listening habits. The statistics reveal a massive surge in local music consumption, with Talha Anjum taking the top spot as the most-streamed Pakistani artist in the country over the last half-decade. Since Spotify entered the Pakistani market in 2021, the platform has seen a sevenfold increase in the total plays of local artists. The number of Pakistani creators on the platform has also grown by nearly 75 percent, reflecting a rapidly expanding creative industry. Listeners in Pakistan are proving to be discovery-driven, with the average user streaming over 140 different artists annually. The rankings highlight a mix of contemporary hip-hop, pop and timeless legends. The data also identified the anthems that stayed on repeat across Pakistan. Hits like ‘Jhol’ and ‘Wishes’ led the charge, showing a strong preference for collaborative tracks and the “indie-pop” sound that has defined the last few years. Pakistani listeners have created over 15 million user-generated playlists in the last five years. Curated editorial playlists like “Pakka Hit Hai” and “ICON Pakistan” have also played a major role in bridge-building between legacy artists and the new generation of stars.
