Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive role in facilitating dialogue and reducing tensions. The Iranian envoy appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and stressed the importance of cooperation between neighbouring countries.

The meeting also comes amid intensified diplomatic efforts by Pakistan to support talks between the United States and Iran. Islamabad has been actively engaged in mediation initiatives aimed at bringing both sides closer to a negotiated settlement.

A day earlier, Donald Trump announced a temporary extension of a ceasefire involving Iran, stating that the decision was made following a request from Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Analysts say Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role reflects its efforts to position itself as a key regional mediator. The meeting between the prime minister and the Iranian envoy underscores the importance of continued engagement at a time when tensions remain high and the need for peaceful solutions is critical. Both sides expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic initiatives would lead to lasting peace and stability in the region.
