Russia Introduces Online Application System for Skilled Foreign Workers

MOSCOW: Russia has introduced a new digital portal under its “Impatriation” programme to attract skilled foreign professionals by offering streamlined pathways to employment and potential citizenship.

According to international reports, the initiative is aimed at drawing talented individuals from across the world who possess in-demand professional skills and are willing to relocate permanently. The programme is part of Moscow’s broader strategy to strengthen its workforce and boost economic growth through global talent acquisition.

Officials said applicants must demonstrate relevant professional expertise as well as respect for Russian cultural values. The application process has been designed to be fully online, allowing candidates to submit required documents and track progress digitally.

Applicants are required to provide a detailed curriculum vitae, along with educational credentials and professional certifications. Once submitted, authorities will assess the applicant’s background and may conduct an online interview as part of the evaluation process. A final decision is expected within a maximum period of 125 days.

Successful candidates granted “impatriate” status will receive a range of benefits, including assistance in obtaining visas, support with accommodation, and help with social integration. Authorities will also assign a personal manager to guide applicants through administrative procedures and settlement processes.

Those whose applications are rejected may explore alternative options, such as applying for a tourist visa or under the Highly Qualified Specialist (HQS) category. However, reapplying for the same programme will only be allowed after one year.

The initiative reflects Russia’s efforts to compete globally for skilled labour, as countries increasingly introduce policies to attract professionals in key sectors. Analysts say such programmes could play a vital role in addressing workforce shortages and enhancing economic productivity.
