The Punjab government has purchased 144 single cabin vehicles for the Crime Control Department (CCD).
According to CCD sources, after purchasing the vehicles, the police sought funds for their fabrication.
The cost of body fabrication of each vehicle was fixed at about Rs 400,000. Rs 57.6 crore is required for body fabrication and installation of lights on all 144 vehicles.
A summary has already been sent to the government by the IG Punjab for the fabrication of the vehicles. The provincial government on Friday has approved funds for the fabrication of CCD vehicles.
Separately, the Punjab government has made an important decision for the Crime Control Department (CCD) personnel, who will no longer serve in the Punjab Constabulary.
According to an official letter issued here on Friday, personnel from other wings are usually sent to the constabulary on deputation of two years and one year, but the CCD personnel will get exemption from Punjab Constabulary, as clarified in the letter.
According to the letter, the CCD personnel will serve in their organisation permanently and will not be transferred to any other wing.
This letter has also been sent to all RPOs, CPOs and DPOs, including CCPO Lahore.
Draft policy for narcotic, criminal cases approved
The Punjab government has taken key steps to modernise the criminal justice system by approving new policies and rules aimed at speeding up case disposal and strengthening prosecution, particularly in narcotics-related offences.
According to official sources, the government has decided to enhance monitoring and efficiency of criminal proceedings through the implementation of a Case Flow Management System, alongside approving the draft Prosecution Policy 2025 for narcotics cases.
The newly approved Criminal Prosecution Service Case Flow Management System Rules 2025 are designed to improve coordination, ensure timely case progression, and make the prosecution framework more robust and effective.
Officials said the reforms aim to deliver speedy justice while enhancing institutional coordination in handling both general criminal and drug-related cases.
The approved drafts have been forwarded to relevant departments for completion of legal formalities, and a formal notification will be issued after clearance from the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department.
Sources added that concerned institutions have been directed to initiate necessary steps to ensure effective implementation of the new policies and rules.
