Arab and Islamic ministers urge Iran to halt attacks, warn future ties at stake | Arab News PK

Foreign ministers from Arab and Islamic countries have called on Iran to immediately stop attacks against neighboring states, as regional tensions continue to escalate across the Middle East.

The demand came during a high-level meeting held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, where top diplomats gathered to discuss ways to support regional security and stability amid growing unrest.

Speaking at the conference, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan strongly condemned Iranian strikes targeting Gulf countries, describing them as unacceptable. He warned that Saudi Arabia reserves the right to respond militarily following the attacks, signaling a firm stance against what Riyadh views as escalating aggression.

Prince Faisal further stated that Iran’s actions are contributing to rising tensions in the region and accused Tehran of adopting an increasingly hostile posture toward its neighbors. Despite the sharp criticism, he reiterated support for dialogue as a means to resolve the problems and reduce tensions.

Pakistan also participated in the meeting, represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Islamabad emphasized the need for an immediate end to attacks against all countries and called for restraint to avoid further escalation.

The conference was attended by foreign ministers from Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Syria, Qatar, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, along with representatives from Kuwait, Jordan, and Egypt, reflecting a broad regional consensus on the issue.

A joint communiqué issued after the meeting strongly condemned Iranian attacks, accusing Tehran of targeting civilian infrastructure, including airports, oil facilities, embassies, and public places. The statement declared such actions unjustifiable and affirmed the Gulf states’ right to self-defense under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The communiqué also urged Iran to respect international law, ensure regional peace, safeguard the Strait of Hormuz, and avoid disrupting global trade routes.
