Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered a province-wide crackdown on transporters charging excessive fares ahead of Eid, aiming to protect passengers during the busy travel season. The directive reflects growing concerns over fare exploitation as thousands of people prepare to return to their hometowns, prompting authorities to act swiftly and ensure fair pricing across all districts.
Moreover, the government has instructed officials to take strict legal action against transporters who violate officially notified fare limits. Authorities have been directed to enforce compliance without exception, ensuring that passengers are not burdened with inflated travel costs. This move highlights the administration’s commitment to safeguarding public interests while maintaining discipline within the transport sector.
In addition, deputy commissioners across Punjab have been tasked with closely monitoring transport operations, particularly at major bus terminals and intercity routes. They will oversee measures to prevent ticket black marketing and ensure that fare lists are clearly displayed at all bus stands, allowing passengers to verify prices and avoid being overcharged.
Furthermore, the chief minister emphasized improving facilities for travelers by ordering arrangements for iftar for fasting passengers during Ramadan. She also directed officials to maintain cleanliness at bus terminals and provide proper seating arrangements along with fans in waiting areas, ensuring a more comfortable travel experience for the public.
Meanwhile, the transport department and other relevant authorities have been instructed to carry out continuous field inspections to ensure strict implementation of these directives. Regular monitoring is expected to deter violations and create accountability among transport operators, especially during peak travel days when demand for tickets significantly increases.
Maryam Nawaz stressed that exploitation of passengers, particularly those from low-income backgrounds traveling home for Eid, will not be tolerated under any circumstances. She reaffirmed that strict action will be taken against violators, signaling a zero-tolerance policy aimed at ensuring fair, safe, and dignified travel for all citizens during the festive period.
