
Afghan mortar fire killed four civilians in a border village of Bajaur on March 15, officials said. The attack struck a house in Leti village of Salarzai tehsil near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The incident matters because it targeted civilians and heightened tensions among residents of the border region.
According to local sources, the mortar shell was fired from the Afghan side of the border. The projectile landed directly on a residential house in Leti, also known as Tari Pasha. As a result, four men inside the house died instantly when the shell exploded. The sudden blast caused panic among residents living close to the border.
Security sources identified the victims as Sajid, Ayaz, Riaz, and Muaz. All four victims were brothers living in the same home. Officials said the mortar shells fired by Afghan Taliban forces landed in Salarzai and nearby areas. Consequently, residents reported fear and uncertainty across the border villages.
Meanwhile, one person sustained serious injuries in the incident. Rescue teams quickly moved the injured man to a nearby hospital. Hospital sources confirmed that doctors continue providing medical treatment. However, the cross-border shelling has angered local communities in Bajaur.
Security officials said Pakistani forces are responding strongly to the attacks along the border. They added that Afghan Taliban forces started targeting civilian areas after facing setbacks against Pakistani troops. Authorities stated they will continue efforts to protect residents in sensitive border regions.
