KARACHI – A meeting of the Karachi City Council descended into chaos on Thursday as members from rival parties clashed, leading to heated arguments and scuffles on the floor of the house. The disruption came shortly after the council had unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the killing of Iranian leadership during the ongoing Middle East conflict.

The situation escalated when a member of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) stood in front of the podium and began questioning Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab while recording him on a mobile phone. The act angered members of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), who objected to the filming of the mayor during the session.
Tensions quickly flared as a PPP member confronted the JI lawmaker, leading to a brief scuffle. Members from both sides rushed forward in an attempt to separate the two and prevent the situation from spiralling further. Throughout the disturbance, the mayor repeatedly asked council members to return to their seats and maintain order in the house.
Despite the commotion, the council managed to continue its proceedings and passed a total of 14 resolutions, including five unanimously. Among them was a resolution condemning the US and Israeli attacks on Iran and calling for an immediate end to the conflict in the Middle East. The council also expressed concern over reports of casualties and destruction caused by the war.
Another resolution expressed deep sorrow over the deadly fire at Gul Plaza in Karachi that claimed more than 80 lives and destroyed over 1,200 shops. The council offered prayers for those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
