Nation observes Youm-e-Ali with devotion and tight Security

Published on: March 11, 2026 2:47 PM

Pakistan observed the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali (RA) on Wednesday with deep religious devotion, as mourning processions and gatherings were held across major cities under strict security arrangements. Authorities deployed thousands of police personnel and implemented comprehensive security plans to ensure the safety of participants during the solemn religious commemorations.

In Karachi, the central procession began after a mourning gathering at Nishtar Park and later concluded at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah. As part of the security measures, authorities sealed several roads and streets in the Saddar area by placing containers to control movement. Police and law enforcement agencies remained on high alert throughout the day while monitoring procession routes and nearby locations to maintain order.

Similarly, Rawalpindi witnessed large gatherings as the central Youm-e-Ali procession peacefully concluded after reaching Imambargah Colonel Maqbool. In Peshawar, the procession passed through traditional routes including Kochi Bazaar before returning to Imambargah Syed Alam Shah, where mourners ended the commemorative gathering after offering prayers and paying tribute to the legacy of Hazrat Ali (RA).

Meanwhile, Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar personally reviewed the procession route and security arrangements in Karachi. During his visit, he instructed law enforcement agencies to ensure extraordinary security measures to prevent any untoward incidents. Officials closely monitored the situation across sensitive areas while coordinating with local administration and security forces.

Authorities also remained cautious due to a recent security incident that occurred on February 28 outside the United States Consulate in Karachi, where a firing incident claimed the lives of eleven people. The provincial home minister confirmed that an investigation into the incident is still underway and emphasised that no final conclusions will be drawn until the inquiry is completed.

Across Punjab, officials also implemented strict security arrangements for Youm-e-Ali observances. More than 30,000 police personnel were deployed to protect religious gatherings and processions across the province. Authorities stated that the extensive security plan aims to ensure peaceful observance of the day while allowing citizens to participate in commemorations with respect and devotion.
