The 63-year-old Hollywood star has largely stayed out of the spotlight since the release of the latest installment in the long-running action franchise. However, he attended the ceremony on March 9, where his name was announced as the winner for Best Actor, prompting the entire audience to rise for a standing ovation.

The emotional moment appeared to surprise Cruise, who paused briefly before addressing the crowd. “That’s very kind… thank you,” he said while taking in the applause. He described the evening as special and expressed gratitude for being among fellow filmmakers and performers.

During his acceptance speech, Cruise thanked longtime collaborator Christopher McQuarrie, who directed several films in the Mission: Impossible series. With humor, he told the audience, “Thank you McQ for trying to kill me so many times for all these years. I appreciate it,” referencing the physically demanding stunts he performs in the films.

Cruise also hinted that the franchise might not be completely over, joking that there may be “many more to come” while again acknowledging McQuarrie. The comment sparked speculation among fans about the future of the blockbuster action series.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning marked another major milestone in Cruise’s career, continuing the franchise’s legacy of high-intensity action and elaborate stunt sequences that have become its trademark.

The actor concluded his speech by thanking the audience as well as the many directors and collaborators he has worked with throughout his decades-long career. Cruise has also teased an upcoming project titled Digger, which will be directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.
