Punjab’s education authorities have introduced a new system for awarding practical examination marks in board exams, aiming to strengthen transparency, fairness, and accountability in the overall assessment process across the province.
Under the revised policy, officials have removed the authority previously granted to examiners at examination centers to award full marks during practical examinations, a practice that often raised concerns about consistency and fairness.

Instead, the government has divided practical examination marks into two separate components so that different parts of the assessment can be evaluated independently through a more structured and transparent system.
According to the new mechanism, the written portion of the practical exam will now be checked through the central marking system operated by the respective education boards, ensuring standardized evaluation across institutions.

Meanwhile, the examiner present at the examination center will only assign a limited number of marks based on students’ viva voce responses and their practical performance during the laboratory examination session.
Initially, authorities will implement this system in practical exams for subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science, after which officials plan to expand the policy across all boards in Punjab.
Punjab education officials believe the reform will reduce irregularities, improve uniformity in marking standards, and strengthen trust among students, parents, and teachers regarding the fairness of board examination results.
