Khawaja Asif warns of expanding Israeli regional influence

Published on: March 3, 2026 2:03 PM

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has claimed that the ongoing war against Iran is designed to push Israeli influence closer to Pakistan’s borders, describing the conflict as strategically imposed despite Tehran’s willingness to negotiate. In a detailed statement shared on social media platform X, he argued that the crisis forms part of a broader regional design that threatens the stability of Muslim-majority states, including Pakistan.

Furthermore, Asif stated that Zionism poses a global challenge and alleged that major conflicts in the Islamic world since the creation of Israel have reflected its ideological and political influence. He claimed that powerful international actors remain under its economic and strategic sway, asserting that such dominance has shaped geopolitical developments for decades. According to him, the war on Iran fits into this larger historical pattern of regional confrontation.

Turning to domestic matters, the defence minister emphasized that Pakistan remains a nuclear power with armed forces respected worldwide, crediting national resilience and sacrifice for safeguarding sovereignty. He paid tribute to the country’s martyrs and veterans, acknowledging their contributions in strengthening defense capabilities. Additionally, he praised former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for what he described as courageous leadership during Pakistan’s nuclear tests.

Moreover, Asif alleged that Afghanistan, Iran, and India share a hostile agenda aimed at weakening Pakistan’s borders and surrounding it with adversaries. He argued that such a strategy seeks to reduce Pakistan into a dependent state by creating continuous instability along its frontiers. He urged the nation’s estimated 250 million citizens to recognize what he called a coordinated effort to undermine national security despite internal political differences.

In conclusion, the defence minister called for unity within Pakistan and across the broader Muslim world, stressing the importance of collective awareness during turbulent times. He also voiced support for the Palestinian cause and prayed for regional stability, urging citizens to remain vigilant. His remarks come amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, where shifting alliances and military actions continue to reshape the geopolitical landscape.
