The Middle East has entered its most volatile and dangerous era in decades. The recent joint military operation by the United States and Israel has not only shattered regional stability but has struck at the heart of the Islamic world. The martyrdom of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ignited a firestorm of grief and defiance. He was perhaps an only figure who stood as a steadfast bulwark against global hegemony.
The Martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei
On February 28, 2026, a massive aerial campaign launched by the U.S. and Israel targeted Tehran.

The strike on the Supreme Leader’s office resulted in the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei along with members of his family, including his daughter, son-inlaw and grandchild. This act represents a blatant violation of international law. Specifically, the Geneva Convention (IV) relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons and Customary International Humanitarian Law (Rule 89) strictly prohibit the murder of non-combatants and “persons hors de combat.” The targeted killing of civil and spiritual leadership sets a catastrophic precedent, suggesting that no sovereign leader is safe from the unilateral whims of Western powers.

In immediate retaliation, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched extensive missile and drone attacks. These strikes have targeted 27 US military bases across the region and Israeli military assets. The cycle of violence by US-Israeli nexus has now claimed the lives of over 500 people across 24 Iranian provinces, including a horrific missile strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab, which killed approximately 180 people, mostly young girls.

A Global Legacy Since 1945

The current aggression is part of a systemic pattern of US-led regime change operations that have destabilized both Muslim and non-Muslim nations for over eighty years. Since 1945, Washington has frequently bypassed diplomacy to topple leaders who challenged its interests. The 1953 Iranian coup (Operation Ajax) overthrew Mohammad Mossadegh to secure oil interests, while the 1973 Chilean coup replaced the elected Salvador Allende with a brutal dictatorship. This doctrine extended to the violent ousting of Saddam Hussain in Iraq (2003) and Muammar Gaddafi in Libya (2011), leaving both nations in perpetual strife.

In the last decade, these tactics have evolved into sophisticated hybrid warfare. In Ukraine (2014), Western-backed uprisings-widely viewed as a coup- leveraged billions in democracy-building funds and intensive media narratives to shift the nation’s orbit which resulted in the ousting of Pro-Russian Viktor Yanukovych.

More recently, a month ago, the US conducted a leadership decapitation in Venezuela, capturing President Nicolas Maduro under the guise of antinarcotics operations. By asserting it would “run the country” until a transition, Washington has once again demonstrated that its commitment to sovereignty is entirely selective. It chooses to ignore international law whenever a nation’s resources or geography align with its strategic goals.

Regime Change and Nuclear Provocation

The current aggression is the culmination of a decades-long strategy. Since the early 1990s, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has consistently provoked the international community with alarmist claims regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

Despite Iran’s consistent stance that its program is peaceful coupled with the Fatwa of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei about the weapons of mass destruction- and its willingness to enter the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)-the US and Israel have repeatedly moved the goalposts.

History remembers that it was Donald Trump who unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018, sabotaging a functional diplomatic framework.

The current strikes occurred while negotiations were underway under the Omani mediation. It proves once again that the US is an unreliable ally that views diplomacy only as a tool for demonization rather than genuine peace.

Dissecting the “Washington Post Propaganda”
A central component of this conflict is the information war. A recent story by the Washington Post claimed that President Trump launched these strikes following weeks of lobbying by Israel and Saudi Arabia. The story suggested that while US intelligence saw no imminent threat, regional allies pushed for the strike to topple the Iranian government.
Crucial Correction:
The Saudi Embassy in Washington, through spokesperson Fahad Nazer, has explicitly denied this misleading story. Saudi Arabia has maintained a consistent public and private stance of supporting diplomatic efforts and refusing to allow its territory or airspace to be used for attacks on Iran and any other Muslim Nation.

This misleading narrative is a malicious attempt to:
4 Provoke Sectarian Violence: By falsely involving Arab nations in the assassination of a Shia leader, the Western media aims to ignite Shia-Sunni riots in Muslim world. Netanyahu’s recent statement of forming an alliance to curb radical shia-sunni axis adds more insult to the injury.

4 Sow Discord in the Ummah: It seeks to fracture the growing sense of Muslim unity against external aggression.

4 Deflect Accountability: It attempts to shift the blame for American and Israeli war crimes onto their regional neighbors.
The Illusion of Peace

While the world watches Tehran burn, the atrocities in Gaza continue unabated. Despite the formation of the so-called Board of Peace and a fragile ceasefire, Israeli tactics remain unchanged.
Benjamin Netanyahu, an individual for whom the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for war crimes and crimes against humanity, continues to lead this “peace” process.
Netanyahu recently stated that he is forming an alliance to fight the radical axis justifies perpetual war. The Board of Peace appears to be nothing more than a bandage over a festering wound, facilitating the de-facto annexation of Palestinian land while the international community remains silent.
A Call for Unity
The Muslim Ummah must recognize that propaganda is a weapon as potent as any missile. The reliance on the US as security partner has proven to be a fallacy. For the Arab nations and the wider Islamic world, the lesson is clear: true security lies in internal unity and the rejection of orchestrated narratives designed to pit brother against brother.
The martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei and the innocent children in Minab must serve as a turning point. It is time to counter Western propaganda with full force and stand united against the blatant violations of international law that threaten to engulf the entire region in flames.
