DUBAI: Dubai Police have imposed a AED50,000 fine on a guardian after a child was caught riding a recreational electric bike on a public street, officials confirmed. The incident occurred when traffic patrol officers stopped the child, who was accompanied by another minor, to prevent potential harm to themselves and other road users. The bike was impounded immediately.

Authorities summoned the guardian, who is required to pay the 50,000-dirham fee to release the vehicle, in accordance with Dubai traffic regulations. The rules allow police to seize vehicles involved in dangerous behaviour to ensure public safety.
Legal measures were also taken under the UAE’s child protection law, which criminalizes acts that put minors at risk or constitute neglect of their safety. Police emphasized that underage children are not physically or mentally equipped to navigate traffic safely, making such behaviour particularly hazardous.
“Parents and guardians must not allow children to ride or drive any vehicle on public roads,” Dubai Police stated, highlighting that enforcement of safety laws is strict and ongoing.
Officials warned that strict action will continue against anyone who endangers children or the wider public, stressing the importance of preventing accidents and promoting safe recreational practices. The move reflects Dubai’s broader efforts to ensure road safety, particularly for minors, and underscores the legal responsibility guardians hold for the well-being of children under their care.

The case serves as a reminder to parents and guardians in Dubai that recreational vehicles, including electric bikes, must only be used in safe, designated areas and never on public streets.
